Amy named ultimate heroine
|
When we think of role models Amy Winehouse is not the first name that springs to mind. But believe it or not, she has just topped a poll of ultimate heroines.
The singer claimed top spot with under-25s in the poll by Sky.com – and yes, we are just as shocked as you that she beat off the likes of Angelina Jolie and Coleen McLoughlin.
However, you ain't heard nothing yet: Pete Doherty came second in the hero poll behind Steven Gerrard. Since the Babyshambles frontman is currently locked up, I wouldn't call him a hero – but each to their own.
Amy was also popular with older people surveyed for the poll, although she dropped to second place behind Princess Diana.
Psychologist Donna Dawson said: "The results show that what society defines as a 'hero' and a 'heroine' seems to differ greatly. The majority of the Top 10 women chosen, such as Diana, Princess of Wales and Amy Winehouse, seem to portray a certain sense of vulnerability or have had to fight against some adversity in their lives."
The over-25s name Winston Churchill as their ultimate hero, followed by Elvis Presley. Ah some sense at last.
